Stefanie Averbeck-Lietz (ZEMKI, Universität Bremen): “Facing Fake News, Hate Speech and Journalism”bashing”. How to conceptualize and analyze incivility?”
Nowadays our political communication is often characterized – by journalists as well as by scholars – in relation to “hate speech” and “fake news” intensified by the so called “filter bubbles” and “echo chambers” of social media. We wish to observe and discuss this in a transeuropean perspective. How can communication scholars deal with types of deviant communication from a theoretical perspective and a perspective of ethics in communication ? Are Habermas’ notions of verity, veracity and rightness – all based on mutual respect in interpersonal communication – obsolete to describe, to analyze and to face mediatized incivility which is relying on datafication and algorithmization?
