Wilhelm C., Bosler S., Wiesinger S, Rothenberger L. (2016), «CUMEN – An International Transborder and Intercultural Study of Media Use: Perceptions of Methodological Issues and First Results», 18th Annual Conference of the Methods Division of the German Communication Association (DGPuK), September 21-23, 2016, Université d’Amsterdam.

This contribution focuses on the methodological challenges of the project “CUMEN— Cultures des médias / numériques”, a comparative transborder and intercultural project for measuring students’ media use in three countries: France, Switzerland, and Germany.  CUMEN applies a mixed method approach, combining quantitative with qualitative research tools in order to study transborder phenomena in a more and more me- diatized and intercultural world. First results indicate clusters and typologies of media use and corresponding mediatisation of life-worlds. The focus of the paper is on development, application and constant adaption of the media diary elaborated to measure the students’ media use.
